How Do I Download and Install Kompozer?

There are many ways to create web pages (documents). You can create them with a number of commercial programs like Dream Weaver, Coffee Cup, Go Live, Microsoft Publisher, Notepad and even Microsoft Word. These will all work, but they each have varying levels of complexity. If you are familiar with any of these programs they will work fine. However, of the free programs we think Kompozer is best and therefore we only support Kompozer.

Through this knowledge base we will explain the basics of using Kompozer. We will explain how to enter text and change fonts, sizes and styles. We will demonstrate how to add a photograph and how to create and keep track of your links. Kompozer can also both save your files on your computer and also put them on the Internet where everyone can see them. These are the basics and we will show you how to do all of this. If you want to do more than this then look in Komposer's help file system or search on the Internet.

Kompozer is a free program (a tool) that can be freely down loaded and used. Of all the free programs that we have evaluated this is the simplest to use and yet still has power for your future needs. The lead developer for Kompozer is Fabien Cazenave. I would encourage everyone who uses it to donate something to say thanks and to encourage those who work on this to continue with their work.

To download and install the latest "stable" version of Kompozer go to:

 http://www.kompozer.net/download.php

After downloading the file, click on it to install it. It will open WinZip (or your equivalent file extraction program). Click on "Extract" and then cut and paste this:

C:\Program Files\Kompozer\

into WinZip's "extract to" path and click on extract. WinZip will look something like this before you press extract.

Next navigate to the directory where your just extracted the files to and locate the file that is shown as kompozer.exe:

Right click on the file and then choose: Send To | Desktop (create shortcut).
